Get your free estimateYork Heat Pump Service: The Henderson Owner’s Guide
York heat pump service in Henderson typically runs $150 – $650 for repairs, with most common part replacements landing between $200 and $450 installed. We stock York-compatible components on our trucks and can usually be at your door the same day you call. Most Henderson homeowners discover a part has failed when the heat pump runs but won’t cool, makes a sound it never made before, or the auxiliary heat strips kick on constantly while the outdoor unit sits silent.
What surprises people is how quickly a small failed component, a run capacitor or a defrost sensor, drags the whole system down. The compressor keeps trying, the fan keeps spinning, but the unit stops delivering conditioned air. In July, that shows up fast. York builds solid equipment, but the Henderson sun and dust work every part harder than the factory ever intended.
Which York Models This Applies To
We service the full York residential heat pump line: the LX Series, the Affinity Series, and older models still running throughout Green Valley, Anthem, and Inspirada. The part compatibility question comes down to which generation you own. York changed the defrost control board connector layout between the 2008 and 2012 model years, and a board from the wrong run will not seat properly even though it looks nearly identical. We check the unit data plate on every visit, the model number and serial number printed on the outdoor cabinet, rather than guessing from memory.
For York specifically, we recommend genuine York OEM parts when the component sits in the refrigerant circuit or controls defrost logic. For general-wear parts like capacitors and contactors, quality aftermarket equivalents from Mars or Titan HD hold up just as well in Henderson conditions and usually cost 20-30% less. We’ll tell you the tradeoff plainly and leave the choice with you. The serial number also tells us your unit’s manufacture date, which matters when a part has been revised mid-series. York issued several condenser fan motor updates across the LX line, and the correct replacement depends on which blade pitch your unit shipped with.

Signs Your York Heat Pump Service Is Failing
- Outdoor unit runs but air from the vents is lukewarm. This is often a failed reversing valve or low refrigerant from a slow leak in the coil, and the compressor keeps working while delivering nothing useful.
- The heat pump ices over in cooling mode. A failed defrost control board or bad defrost sensor tells the unit to pause defrost cycles, so ice builds across the coil and blocks airflow.
- You hear a hard buzzing or clicking near startup. A failing run capacitor can’t give the compressor or fan motor the start it needs, and that buzz is the motor stalling against the line voltage.
- The outdoor fan spins slowly or not at all while the compressor runs. A weak condenser fan motor or bad capacitor overheats the coil, which trips the high-pressure switch and shuts the system down on the hottest Henderson afternoons.
- Your electric bill spikes with no change in thermostat settings. When the defrost board goes bad, the system may cycle into defrost mode too often, running the heat strips while the outdoor unit fights itself.
None of these fix themselves. Half the time, a homeowner calls us after three weeks of watching the unit behave oddly, and by then a $45 part has taken out a $900 compressor.

Every quote is a written price before any work starts. That includes the part, the labor, the refrigerant top-off if the system needed to be opened, and a full system check after the repair so the new part isn’t shouldering a problem we missed. You’ll know the number before we turn a screwdriver. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every repair, and if something isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right without a debate about who did what.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things: check the breakers at the panel, and change a clogged air filter. That’s it for a heat pump. A heat pump has line voltage running through it, 240 volts at the contactor and capacitor, and the capacitor holds a charge even after the breaker is off, good enough to throw you off a ladder at the elbow and worse in wiring.
If you’re comfortable with electrical work, checking the capacitor with a multimeter is possible, but the failure mode we see most in Henderson is a capacitor that measures fine cold and fails under load when the condenser has been baking in 110-degree sun for six hours. Bench testing tells you less than you think. If the unit is misbehaving, call (775) 257-9022 and we’ll diagnose it properly. The diagnostic is part of the service call, and you’ll get the written quote before we replace anything.
FAQs
Most capacitors and contactors last 3 – 5 years in the Henderson heat and fine desert dust, while defrost boards and fan motors commonly reach 8 – 12 years before the heat and voltage swings wear them out.
Capacitors, contactors, and defrost sensors are replacement-only parts because they’re sealed and their failure is internal, so repair isn’t practical or safe.
Most single-part replacements are done in 60 – 90 minutes, and we stock the common York-compatible capacitors, contactors, fan motors, and defrost boards on the truck for one-trip fixes.
We stock common York-compatible parts on our service trucks and can source less common York OEM components within 1 – 2 days, so the decision comes down to whether you want the aftermarket or the genuine York part.
